Dec 1st:

Egypt Exhibit

The NKU SAS will be going to the Union Terminal to view the Egypt exhibit. Admission is $9.50 and includes the guided tour of the main exhibit, all other museums, and the Omnimax viewing.

There is a maximum of 15 spots. If you have an interest in participating please contact Amy Joy at amyjoylove@hotmail.com

Soup Sale Fund Raiser

The NKU SAS will be hosting a Soup sale in the Landrum entrance way on the second floor from 11AM-3PM.

Pricing and food selection will be added at a later time!

Student Anthropology Society Meeting October 12, 2009

Current count of people attending the RRG trip – around 6?
Club Discussion:
“Ardi” (videos watched @ discovery channel website and on youtube)
- reasons behind the physical adaptations (bipedalism, hands)

Upcoming RRG Trip:
• Meet in the common area of the 2nd Floor (of Landrum) @ 2:30
• Snacks: AJ to buy almonds; Jenny to pick up some snacks from Sam’s Club:
• Member’s Mark Dried 7-Fruit Blend
• Bag of bulk M&Ms
• 5lb bag of navel oranges
• 5lb Premium Gala Washington Apples
• Box of Cheez-Its 1.5oz (36 individual bags)
• Ian is driving (pack stuff in his vehicle), AJ is driving herself; other driving arrangements are yet to be arranged
• Will be buying firewood for this trip

Sweat lodge idea has officially been canceled
List was typed up of items to bring on RRG trip, will be sent out via email and listed below:

9. Any necessary meds fo you head, with instructions in case of emergency

12. Toilet paper and necessary feminine products
13. Knife (optional)
14. Pot and pans for whatever you need to cook and cooking gloves
15. Cooking and eating utensils for yourself
16. Food
17. Water or other non-carbonated beverage
18. Portable water bottle such as a Nalgene
19. Back pack
20. Good vibes
21. Musical Instruments
22. ICE forms
23. Cameras
24. Tarps
25. Rain gear
26. ID’s!!! and money if you want to spend, Big Dolla, Holla
27. Snake-bite kit
28. Clothes: PACK WARM SHIT!!! At least 5 pairs o sockies, and long johns. And other warm things, ie: fleeces, winter clothes and jackets, hats, gloves…etc Bring at least 3 pairs of outdoor style shoes (hiking boots, waterproof shoes, or if you don’t have those then tennis shoes, I guess.)

Red River Gorge – October 5th, 2009

The NKU SAS will be going to Red River Gorge for a weekend of primitive camping during the weekend of Oct 16th-18th. The cost is only 10 dollars to cover for gas and another expenses.

Thoughts expressed on if people wanted to do discussions during meetings like last year.
Sound problems happened with the computer/projector.
Looked at website for cultural food.
Dr. Pence agreed to help fund the Around the World food tasting bash.
A Secretary needs to create an Inventory for the SAS possessions in the department office. Go to office and ask one of the secretaries there.
Casey is making the flier for AFT.

Come out for NKU’s Annual Anthropology Careers Day on Friday April 17th. There will be speakers on archaeology and other areas of anthropology, Q&A with faculty and alumni, and career handouts. Everyone is welcome and this is open to the public.

Also please come out to meeting if you can in the next weeks so that we can plan the last few events for this school year! SAS has had an amazing time so far and we want to try and fit in everything we can before the semester ends.

On the table right now are the trip to the Cincinnati Zoo and perhaps behind the scenes with the bonobos, the Gray and Pape trip and Archaic Field Days at Big Bone Lick. Come out so we can pick dates that will fit everyone’s schedule!

Congratulations to SAS President Amy Joy Meyer who was married this past Saturday!

Our Gray and Pape trip has been put off until Mid March when we can take a tour and talk with Don Miller. We are still trying to figure out a time to make our trip up to Jungle Jim’s that will work for all members. SAS tries to have a weekly “think tank” discussion about relevant anthropological topics.
